Kentucky Logging Bridge Program
The proposed Kentucky Logging Bridge Program aims to enhance timber harvesting practices through the implementation of temporary wooden bridges for stream and channel crossings. Spearheaded by the University of Kentucky's Department of Forestry and Natural Resources in collaboration with the Kentucky Master Logger Program and other key partners, this initiative targets several critical objectives. It seeks to protect water resources, enhance the economic sustainability of logging operations, and safeguard threatened and endangered species. The program will provide a rent-to-own option for wooden bridges, thus reducing sediment pollution and preserving water quality. It also includes comprehensive education and outreach efforts to ensure the adoption of best management practices among loggers, landowners, and mills, emphasizing the importance of water quality and environmental stewardship. The initiative supports underserved communities and promotes sustainable logging operations, while balancing economic interests with ecological conservation.
