Cutting Board Care
Hand Wash Only: To avoid bacterial growth, immediately after each use, wipe the cutting board with hot, soapy water then rinse. NEVER submerge the board in water. Dry with a clean dish towel and store.
Disinfect/Deodorize with Vinegar: Acetic Acid (white vinegar) is an excellent disinfectant for E. coli., Salmonella, and other household bacteria. Spray vinegar on the board and allow to sit for a few minutes. Wipe it with a damp, warm cloth.
Stain Removal with Baking Soda: Combine 2 tablespoons of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of salt, and 3 tablespoons of hot water to create a non-toxic cleaning agent. Scrub the entire surface; wipe it with a warm, wet cloth, and dry with a dish towel.
Cleaning with Coarse Salt & Lemon: For an all-natural clean, dampen the board with a warm cloth and sprinkle it with coarse salt. Cut a lemon in half; scour and squeeze the cut side of the lemon over the board's surface, allowing the juice to cover the area. Allow to stand for 5 minutes. Use a scrub brush to remove excess.
Mineral Oil: To prevent cracking, use food safe mineral oil monthly or bimonthly if the board is used often. It can be purchased at a drug store or major retailer. NEVER use vegetable or nut-based oils due to rancidity issues.
